Abstract

We study minimal conditions for competitive behavior with few agents. We adapt the strategic market game by Simon and others to an indivisible good environment, and prove that two active traders on each side of the market in the competitive equilibrium is sufficient for the outcome of Nash equilibrium in such mechanism to be competitive. We find supportive evidence in a laboratory experiment.
